Editor's note: Every week, ESPN RISE editor David Auguste will take you on a journey to the hometowns of some of the nation's top talents, giving you an inside look at where they're from. We'll get a tour of their favorite spots for sports, good eats, entertainment and more. So come along for the ride and remember, it's not where you're at, it's where you're from.

What's Poppin'

I live in Dumfries, Va. I'm in the center of everything. We call our area, the "DMV" -- D.C., Maryland and (Northern) Virginia. I am 25 minutes from D.C. and Maryland. There are great colleges around us. It's a great area to be a college or high school kid because of the mix of suburbs and city.

Bright Lights, Big City

I'm about 25 minutes from D.C. so the White House, [and] Lincoln Memorial are close. We are about half an hour from Baltimore.

Pump It Up

We have our own music in the DMV -- Go-go. It's a generic music with a lot of drums. The popular local groups are the Reaction Band, CCB, UCB and Mambo Sauce.

Wale (Washington, D.C.) is very popular. The Clipse (Virginia Beach, Va.), Missy Elliot (Portsmouth, Va.), Chris Brown (Tappahannock, Va.) and Pharrell (Virginia Beach) are all from around here.

The Verizon Center holds a lot of concerts. Lil Wayne comes through a lot. Miley Cyrus performs there a lot and is popular with the young kids.

Hungry? Why wait?

We are right by the sea (Chesapeake Bay), so seafood is popular. People here eat a lot of crab cakes, crab legs and mussels. Chick-fil-A and Five Guys are popular fast food spots. Phillips Seafood (D.C.) is the place for seafood.

Change Clothes

In our area, Nike boots are big. Even before Wale's song ("Nike Boots"). Five years ago, everybody wore jeans, North Face jackets and Nike boots. You would go to a basketball game and see 40 people wearing the same thing. Now people wear Nike Dunks or Jordans, True Religion, LRG and Levi's fitted jeans and Lacoste and Ralph Lauren polos. People also wear fitteds (hats) with baseball teams on them. Nobody wears doo-rags or wave caps anymore. Mohawks, fades and box cuts are popular. I barely see people with braids.

The Spot

Tyson Corner shopping mall (McLean, Va.) is a good hangout spot. On Friday nights, we go to football games. Sometimes people throw parties after the games.

Rivalry Renewed

There are a couple of good high school rivalries here. DeMatha vs. Good Counsel football -- they played (Oct. 16) right next to Redskins Stadium [FedEx Field]. DeMatha won in the last 30 seconds. In basketball, it's DeMatha and Gonzaga and Paul VI and Bishop O'Connell.

Sports Scene

People here are faithful to teams around here (Wizards, Redskins, D.C. United, Capitals, Hoyas and Terps). Redskins jerseys are probably the most popular jersey worn here.

We got a rule in my family: you can't like any Washington-based team. I hate all the teams around here.

Papparazi Alert

Miami Heat forward Michael Beasley is from [Frederick] Maryland. Olympic swimmer Kate Ziegler went to my high school. Actor Dave Chappelle is from Washington, D.C. Singer Trey Songz is from Petersburg, Va.

Say What? (local slang)

"Geekin'" -- It's when somebody's acting crazy or funny.
"Jonin'" -- You say it when somebody's getting made fun of.

My slogan for where I'm from: "The DMV -- there's no place like it."
