The duo of Michael Chandler and Ryan Taylor combined for 43 points to lead Lawrence North (Indianapolis, Ind.) past Bishop Luers (Ft. Wayne, Ind.), 49-48, in overtime on Saturday afternoon.
The game was part of Indiana's "100 Years in 100 Days" celebration of Indiana high school basketball and part of ESPN's Old Spice High School Basketball Showcase. The celebration in the Hoosier State began on December 18 and concludes on March 27 at the 100th IHSAA Boys Basketball State Championships.
Chandler, a 6-foot-10 Louisville commit ranked No. 27 in the ESPNU Super 60, took over in the extra period, scoring all five of the Wildcats' points to seal the win.
With 1:26 left in regulation, the 6-foot-5 Taylor, who is also a highly-regarded 2011 Louisville commit, drained two free throws to push the lead to 44-42 in favor of Lawrence North (10-4).
Ohio-State bound forward Deshaun Thomas of Bishop Luers (10-8) answered on a strong drive from the right wing into the lane for a short floater that force overtime.
In the extra period, James Smith struck first for Bishop Luers with a short jump shot from the left baseline. The Wildcats then went back to Chandler, who overpowered his defenders in the paint for back-to-back scores, the last of which came on a drop-step hook to give Lawrence North the lead for good with just over a minute remaining on the overtime clock.
Chandler scored a game-high 27 points while his running mate Taylor added 16 points before fouling out in the extra period.
Thomas led Bishop Luers with 22 points, pushing his career total to 2,852, good enough for third on Indiana's all-time scoring list for boys.
