Khaalidah Miller | Senior SG, Douglass (Atlanta, Ga.) | Mableton, Ga.
Editor's note: Every week, ESPN RISE editor David Auguste will take you on a journey to the hometowns of some of the nation's top talents, giving you an inside look at where they're from. We'll get a tour of their favorite spots for sports, good eats, entertainment and more. So come along for the ride and remember, it's not where you're at, it's where you're from.
I live in Mableton; it's on the west side of Atlanta. It's about 15 minutes from the main part of Atlanta. Atlanta is a fun city and there's always something to do there.
My school was named after abolitionist leader Frederick Douglass. It has between 1,500-1,600 kids in it.
Bright Lights, Big City
There are a bunch of shops in downtown Atlanta. Atlantic Station is like a strip mall. It has a shopping mall and a movie theater.
There is also the Martin Luther King Jr., National Historic Site on Auburn Ave. There's also a black history museum (The Apex Museum) -- my school went on a field trip there last year.
Pump It Up
We listen to mostly rap and R&B.
Lil Wayne, T.I., Usher and Keri Hilson are popular and people like them. Lil Wayne has the best lyrics of them all.
The Rich Kids are from here. One of them goes to Douglass. They had a couple of big songs like "Partna Dem" and "What's Up". They are hot down here.
Travis Porter is another local rap group. They have a song called "All The Way Turnt Up."
Phillips Arena is the place to go see a show. Lil Wayne did a concert there recently. A lot of people do the "Jerk Dance" and the "Boom Boom Clap Dance".
Hungry? Why wait?
O'Charley's, Ikhlas Superb Seafood and Gladys Knight and Ron Winan's Chicken and Waffles are the best places to eat. At O'Charley's, you should try the chipotle BBQ chicken tenders. They're mouth-watering.
Girls usually wear stuff like Air Force Ones, low top Chuck Taylors or Nike Blazers for sneakers. For jeans, girls wear skinny jeans. Mostly True Religion, Levis and Hollister. They wear them with Polo or Aeropostale shirts.
The boys wear Forces, adidas or Polo boots. Some wear skinny jeans (True Religions). Some sag their jeans while others wear it on their waist.
Douglass' biggest rival is Benjamin E. Mays High. We are close to each other and they have good sports teams. We do, too.
In Atlanta, the biggest rivals are Redan and Stephenson. They're football and both basketball teams are all competitive. The fans are ready to fight over the game.
The Falcons, Hawks and the University of Georgia are the most popular teams. Georgia is probably the biggest. The most popular jersey you see is Josh Smith on the Hawks.
T.I., Young Jeezy, Keyshia Cole all live here. Steve Harvey has a house here. Not too many actors or actresses live around here that I know of.
Lil Jon (Class of 1989) went to my school, and T.I. went there for like a month. Also, Martin Luther King Jr.'s family went there.
Kickin' It Old School
Every year we have a Student vs. Teachers basketball game. It's only for seniors. I am going to play in it this year.
The girls' basketball team painted a sign on the wall that says: 'Astros Pride, One Game at a Time'. We jump up and slap it on the way to the court. We always slapped the wall, but this year we painted the motto.
Say What? (local slang)
Flexin' -- It's when somebody says something and you feel they're lying you say, "Yo you're flexin."
Shawty -- It's just like a term when you agree with what someone is saying. You say, "Yeah, Shawty."
My tourist slogan
"This is how we do it in the A."
