Here's a preseason look at the players to watch in the greater Seattle area:
Baines was named Narrows League Bay Division
Offensive MVP as a sophomore after scoring 25 total
touchdowns. Last year, he ran for 1,522 yards and 14
scores and averaged more than 7.5 yards per carry.
Heard, who also stars at linebacker, copped
Gatorade State Player of the Year honors last season
after rushing for 2,238 yards and 31 touchdowns
while tallying 63 tackles on defense.
Meinken is an athletic three-sport star who has the
rare distinction of playing defensive end and tailback.
Meinken has committed to Washington
State, where he'll likely play on the defensive line.
Trufant, who's the younger brother of Seattle
Seahawks Pro Bowl corner Marcus Trufant, has
recruiters knocking down his door. Desmond had
eight picks as a junior.
AN AREA COACH ON JAKE HEAPS:
"I think, right now, he's worth the hype. He's as
good as any player I've seen at this time and he
has a chance to be special. But I don't want to
anoint him as a Carson Palmer-type right now
because I haven't seen enough."
