Byrnes drops after loss to Dorman

Updated: October 28, 2008, 3:48 PM ET

ESPN will release the ESPN RISE FAB 50 national football rankings to start each week of the regular season and playoffs.

Results as of Oct. 25.

A player named Ash helped burn any hopes that the Byrnes High football team of Duncan, S.C., had of being considered the nation's No. 1 squad for the 2008 season.

The South Carolina team was No. 5 in the Week 8 ESPN RISE FAB 50 national poll, but was No. 1 elsewhere. Against Dorman of Roebuck, S.C., a team that is no stranger to success in the Palmetto State, Byrnes not only was upset but at one point trailed 35-7 before suffering a 35-28 defeat.

Dorman led at halftime in each of the teams' previous two meetings, but lost the leads in each of those games. This season, Byrnes scored three times in the game's final 14 minutes to cut into the 35-7 lead. Dorman then went for it on fourth-and-1 from the 42-yard line with less than a minute to go in the game. Quarterback Walt Canty got the first down to seal the win.

The player named Ash was Dorman's senior running back Ash Butler who scored on runs of 72, 68 and 10 yards and finished with 23 carries for 190 yards.

With the loss, Byrnes dropped to No. 33 in this week's FAB 50, while Dorman debuted at No. 24.

In addition to Dorman, there was only one other new team in this week's FAB 50, unbeaten Naperville North from Illinois.

ESPN RISE FAB 50

The ESPN RISE FAB 50 rankings were compiled by a panel of ESPN RISE and ESPN.com high school editors, which includes Mark Tennis, Doug Huff, Chris Lawlor, Jon Mahoney, Sheldon Shealer, Ronnie Flores and Paul Muyskens.

1. Trinity (Euless, Texas)
Record:
8-0
Points: 250, five first-place votes
Previous rank: 1

The top-ranked Trojans flexed their muscles against Grapevine on Friday night, holding the winless Mustangs to just two first downs while rushing for 260 yards in an easy 45-0 win. Trinity led 28-0 at the end of the first quarter and 42-0 at the half. Eleven different players carried for the Trojans and sophomore Tevin Williams led the way with two scores and 79 yards on just five carries. Justin Northwest visits Pennington Field on Friday night.

2. St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.)
Record:
7-0
Points: 244
Previous rank: 2

There was never a doubt for the Raiders, who trounced homecoming opponent South Broward 49-8. Junior RB Giovanni Bernard ran for 157 yards on just 11 carries and fellow junior James White scored three times to pace the ground attack. Senior QB Ryan Becker also hooked up with senior receiver Duron Carter three times for 100 yards and a touchdown. St. Thomas is across town playing at much-improved McArthur on Friday.

3. Lowndes (Valdosta, Ga.)
Record:
8-0
Points: 241
Previous rank: 3

The Vikings came off their bye week and continued their winning ways with a 52-14 blowout of Houston County. Lowndes extended the school-record winning streak to 22 straight games. Senior RB Gerald Demps, a Florida State commit, scored two touchdowns in the rout. Lowndes goes on the road Friday to take on Coffee.

4. Gateway (Monroeville, Pa.)
Record:
9-0
Points: 235
Previous rank: 4

The Gators narrowly survived their biggest test of the season when they eked out a 31-27 win over McKeesport in their regular-season finale. Gateway held a 28-7 lead at halftime and junior quarterback Rob Kalkstein, who completed 12 of 24 passes for 158 yards, tossed two touchdown passes to senior wide receiver/defensive back Corey Brown in the first half. McKeesport stormed back behind the play of junior quarterback Ty-Meer Brown, who ran for 113 yards and three scores. Gateway clinched the victory when seniors Christopher Lammie and Jeff Parrish sacked Brown on fourth down at the Gators' 40-yard line with a little more than two minutes to go. The Gators, last year's WPIAL Class AAAA runner-up, will begin WPIAL playoff action Friday against Mount Lebanon.

5. Poly (Long Beach, Calif.)
Record:
7-0
Points: 228
Previous rank: 6

Senior DB Darius Williams-Fox ran like a rabbit on a 76-yard interception return that lifted Poly to a 34-7 win over Long Beach Wilson. Later in the game, the Jackrabbits showed more offensive versatility as senior QB Morgan Fennell tossed a pair of TD passes to senior receiver Jordan Johnson. With the win, Poly moved into the top five of the FAB 50 due to previous No. 5 Byrnes of South Carolina losing to in-state rival Dorman. This week, head coach Raul Lara's squad takes on Cabrillo of Long Beach.

6. Armwood (Seffner, Fla.)
Record:
8-0
Points: 226
Previous rank: 7

It's starting to get scary how dominant the Hawks look week in and week out. Armwood pummeled district foe Hillsborough 46-7 at Chelo Huerta Field. Leading the stout Hawks' defense was senior DB Angelo Hadley, who totaled three turnovers on two picks and a fumble recovery. Hadley returned his second interception 23 yards for a touchdown to put the finishing touches on the win. Armwood is giving up 3.1 points per game. Next on the schedule is a road game against Freedom.

7. Oscar Smith (Chesapeake, Va.)
Record:
9-0
Points: 219
Previous rank: 8

The Tigers ripped Deep Creek 49-0 for their fifth straight Southeastern District title. It was a familiar story as junior quarterback Phillip Sims passed for 285 yards and four touchdowns. His primary target was senior receiver Tim Smith, who recently committed to the University of Virginia. Smith had five catches for 100 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Oscar Smith finishes regular-season play against Lakeland (Va.) on Friday.

8. Glenville (Cleveland)
Record:
10-0
Points: 217
Previous rank: 9

The Tarblooders capped an unbeaten regular season with a 41-0 blanking of winless Cleveland East in a Senate League contest. Sophomore Shane Wynn scored two touchdowns. Senior quarterback Terrence Owens passed for a TD, and his backup, Cardale Jones, connected on 3 of 7 passes for 115 yards and a TD. Coach Ted Ginn Sr.'s team outscored its past three foes 144-0. Glenville, which is seeking its first state football title, opens Division 1 playoffs Saturday against Brecksville-Broadview Heights.

9. Lake Travis (Austin, Texas)
Record:
8-0
Points: 210
Previous rank: 10

The Cavaliers had the week off, and it was a useful week to rest, with undefeated Dripping Springs visiting Friday in what should be a huge District 25-4A showdown. The Dripping Springs defense will have its hands full with Garrett Gilbert and the high-flying Lake Travis attack. The Cavs have scored 50-plus points in all four of their district games this season.

10. St. Xavier (Louisville, Ky.)
Record:
7-0
Points: 203
Previous rank: 11

There was no pleasure for Pleasure Ridge Park as the Tigers continue to dominate opponents by scoring over 50 points for the fifth game this season. Senior running back Deuce Finch scored three touchdowns and amassed 249 all-purpose yards to lead the offense. The Tigers also rushed for 371 yards in the rout. St. Xavier tackles Louisville Central on Friday.

11. Camden County (Kingsland, Ga.)
Record:
8-0
Points: 199
Previous rank: 12

After hanging 78 points on Johnson two weeks ago, the Wildcats almost matched that output as they cruised past overmatched Jenkins 70-0. Junior QB Ryan Gregoire tossed two touchdowns and sophomore RB Hayden Boudreaux accounted for two scores. Next up for Camden County is a home contest against Savannah.

12. South Panola (Batesville, Miss.)
Record:
9-0
Points: 196
Previous rank: 13

For one quarter, Southaven had dreams of a major upset. But one quarter does not a game make as South Panola jumped one spot in the FAB 50 by scoring 21 second-quarter points en route to a 35-7 victory. Xavier Lee caught TD passes of 33 and 32 yards from senior QB David Renfroe in the second quarter to break open the close contest. The Tigers shut down Southaven over the second half during which junior RB Nicolas Parker broke free on a 40-yard scamper as South Panola put the 14-13 escape against Tupelo the previous week behind them. Inching toward the top 10, the Tigers, who ran the nation's longest active winning streak to 84 games, visit 2-7 Starkville on Friday.

13. Skyline (Sammamish, Wash.)
Record:
8-0
Points: 189
Previous rank: 14

With Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis in attendance, Skyline QB Jake Heaps put on a show, completing 10 of 16 passes for 271 yards and four scores as the state's top team easily beat Redmond 41-6. Heaps did not play in the second half. The defense had another strong outing, holding Redmond scoreless for most of the game, only allowing a late score against the second-team defense. The Spartans, who have only yielded 14 points all season, will face Bothell on Thursday night for the KingCo 4A Championship.

14. Centennial (Corona, Calif.)
Record:
7-0
Points: 188
Previous rank: 15

It's also a one-spot jump for the Huskies in this week's ratings. The latest easy win for head coach Matt Logan's squad was a 56-6 rout Friday of Riverside Poly. Senior RB Arthur Burns rambled for 123 yards on 18 carries and scored four times. Centennial takes on another Riverside school Friday with a Big 8 League matchup versus J.W. North.

15. Lakeland (Lakeland, Fla.)
Record:
7-0
Points: 178
Previous rank: 16

In front of 4,000 fans at Bryant Stadium, the Dreadnaughts easily dispatched Jenkins 42-7. Lakeland jumped out to a 28-0 halftime lead with the help of two rushing touchdowns from senior RB Aaron Trudell and a 62-yard passing strike on a trick play to senior WR Jamal Rodman. The Naughts are away for their next game at Ridge Community.

16. Phoebus (Hampton, Va.)
Record:
9-0
Points: 177
Previous rank: 17

This team's 48-0 victory over Kecoughtan was not as overwhelming as it first appears. In fact, the team managed only 53 offensive yards and one offensive touchdown in the first half. The usually explosive Phantoms used a pair of field goals and an interception return for a touchdown to take a 20-0 halftime lead. The Phantoms did find their rhythm in the second half, rolling up nearly 300 yards while scoring 28 more points. Phoebus faces Denbigh on Friday in both teams' regular-season finale.

17. St. Ignatius (Cleveland)
Record:
9-1
Points: 166
Previous rank: 18

The Wildcats closed the regular season with their ninth straight win in a 34-12 decision over rival Lakewood St. Edward before a sellout crowd of about 11,500 at Byers Field. An encore is set next weekend as the two foes are matched in the opening round of the Division 1 state playoffs. St. Ignatius has outscored its opponents 341-73 in its nine wins since bowing to unbeaten, FAB 50-ranked Glenville 20-17 on a last-play field goal. Against St. Edward, senior quarterback Andrew Holland passed for two TDs of 70 and 15 yards to Joe Parris and scored on a 19-yard run.

18. Maryville (Maryville, Tenn.)
Record:
9-0
Points: 160*
Previous rank: 20

Maryville had a bye week as it prepares to travel to Lenoir City. The Rebels will look to extend their winning streak to 70 games as they finish up their regular-season schedule. With three more wins, Maryville will surpass Hudson, Mich., on the all-time national list. Hudson once owned the national record at 72 in that category until 1997 when De La Salle of Concord (Calif.) broke it. The Spartans then kept winning until 2004 when their streak was finally stopped at 151.

19. Elder (Cincinnati)
Record:
9-1
Points: 160*
Previous rank: 21

The Panthers closed the regular season with their eighth straight win, 49-20 over Western Hills. Elder scored 49 unanswered points after falling behind 6-0 after play from scrimmage. Junior wide receiver Tim O'Connor had two TD receptions and Josh Jones scored twice -- one rushing and one receiving. Elder opens the state Division 1 playoffs Saturday against Centerville.

20. North Shore (Houston)
Record:
6-0
Points: 156
Previous rank: 22

Baytown Sterling entered Friday night's game at North Shore with one loss and hoping to challenge the mighty Mustangs. Those hopes were dashed quickly and convincingly as senior QB Alex Tillman threw two long first-quarter touchdowns and North Shore rolled up over 600 yards of offense in a 49-3 beatdown. There were several stars that evening for the Mustangs, starting with Tillman, who had six pass completions for 258 yards and three scores. He added an 18-yard scoring run in the second quarter. Junior receiver Deandrew White caught four balls for 194 yards and two scores, while senior RB Deaundre Jones ran for 128 yards and two touchdowns on just eight carries as North Shore averaged over 10 yards per play on offense, while the defense held Sterling to 8-of-31 passing and forced three turnovers. Baytown Lee, led by legendary coach Dick Olin, is next for North Shore.

21. Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.)
Record:
5-1
Points: 145*
Previous rank: 23

After a week off, the Ironmen returned to the field against Ridgewood and didn't show any rust on their way to a convincing 51-7 win. Bosco churned out a lot of its offensive yardage on the ground (322 yards). Senior running back Dillon Romain led the way by rushing for 156 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries. Senior quarterback Brett Knief threw for 187 yards and ran for 88 yards and two scores. Don Bosco now heads into a brutal two-game stretch that could define its season. The Ironmen travel to face undefeated rival Bergen Catholic on Saturday and host St. Joseph Regional (6-0) on Nov. 7.

22. Permian (Odessa, Texas)
Record:
8-0
Points: 145*
Previous rank: 24

When the Panthers found themselves in a dogfight, leading Lubbock Coronado just 28-24 at the half, they turned to Sherard Ray, and the senior running back came through, scoring twice in the third quarter and once more in the fourth as Permian pulled away for a 56-31 win. Ray finished the night with his second 250-yard-plus game of the season, rushing 23 times for 273 yards and four scores. The Panthers will hope to shore up a defense that allowed 26 first downs and 455 total yards when they play at Tascosa on Friday.

23. Stone Bridge (Ashburn, Va.)
Record:
9-0
Points: 139
Previous rank: 26

Senior receiver Michael Prince touched the ball five times but proved efficient, scoring three touchdowns as Stone Bridge routed Thomas Jefferson 70-7. Prince scored on a 45-yard pass and 13- and 56-yard runs. Stone Bridge scored four touchdowns in both the first and second quarters to carry a 56-0 lead into halftime. Stone Bridge faces W.T. Woodson on Friday.

24. Dorman (Roebuck, S.C.)
Record:
9-0
Points: 129
Previous rank: NR

Senior RB Ash Butler rushed for 190 yards and three touchdowns, helping lead Dorman to a 35-28 victory over previously undefeated Byrnes. Dorman built a 35-7 lead after three quarters and withstood a 21-point onslaught from Byrnes in the final 14 minutes of the game. Dorman improved to 3-0 in South Carolina's Region II-4A and travels to Hillcrest on Friday. The Cavaliers were so impressive in beating Byrnes that they debuted all the way up at No. 24 in this week's rankings.

25. Arrowhead (Hartland, Wis.)
Record:
9-0
Points: 124
Previous rank: 25

The defending state Division 1 champion Warhawks capped an unbeaten regular season with a 37-23 victory over Pius XI. Arrowhead scored all 37 points before intermission including 24 in the first quarter. Junior RB Brian Crook rushed 11 times for 149 yards and two touchdowns. Arrowhead opens the state playoffs on Tuesday against Lincoln.

26. North Penn (Lansdale, Pa.)
Record:
9-0
Points: 121
Previous rank: 30

Is there anything North Penn senior Ronnie Akins can't do on the football field? The senior all-around dynamo ran for 70 yards and three touchdowns on three carries, including a 42-yarder. He added four receptions for 50 yards and also returned an interception 82 yards for another score on defense. North Penn clinched the Suburban One League Continental title with the win. The Knights close out the season by hosting Pennridge on Friday.

27. De La Salle (Concord, Calif.)
Record:
6-1
Points: 118
Previous rank: 28

The Spartans tuned up for this week's showdown against undefeated Monte Vista with a 34-14 victory over Amador Valley. The highlight of the night was a blocked field goal by Terron Williams-Ward, after which the talented junior scooped up the ball and raced for a 69-yard touchdown. With the score still 21-7 in the second half, De La Salle then put the game away after a one-yard TD run by senior QB Blake Wayne and then a 52-yard TD run by junior RB Tyler Anderson. Monte Vista stayed tied with the Spartans atop the East Bay Athletic League with a 51-16 win over Livermore.

28. Prattville (Prattville, Ala.)
Record:
7-1
Points: 114*
Previous rank: 27

Alabama's No. 1 team lost a spot in the FAB 50 by not playing last week, but it's doubtful coach Jamey Debose cares as he and his Lions have had an extra week to prepare for defending state 5A champion Central of Tuscaloosa. Central -- led by sophomore QB Broderick Hall and senior RB K.C. Logan -- is 8-0, trying to repeat last year's 15-0 run and is coming off a 36-18 win over Woodlawn. Prattville, which lost its opener by just five points to St. Xavier of Cincinnati, has played a tougher schedule and will look to the balanced attack of senior running back Jerodis Williams and junior quarterback Sam Gibson to be the difference. The Lions should be healthy since not only have they had an extra week to prepare; the starters saw little action after intermission two weeks ago in a 30-point win over Lanier. Prattville will not be caught looking ahead to the 6A playoffs.

29. Plant (Tampa, Fla.)
Record:
6-1
Points: 114*
Previous rank: 29

No Aaron Murray, no problem for the Panthers, who crushed Leto 50-14 on homecoming weekend. Sophomore QB Phillip Ely picked up for the injured Murray, throwing for 224 yards and five scores on 25 of 34 pass attempts. Senior TE Orson Charles had four catches and two touchdowns. Plant will be home Friday against Chamberlain.

30. Good Counsel (Olney, Md.)
Record:
8-0
Points: 108
Previous rank: 33

On a team loaded with stars and top prospects, Tyler Campbell is making a name for himself as a big-game performer. The senior quarterback completed all eight pass attempts for 210 yards and a touchdown as the Falcons handled St. John's (D.C.) 42-3 on Friday. Jelani Jenkins, among the ESPNU 150, rushed for three scores, and Maryland commit Caleb Porzel added a pair of touchdown runs. St. John's entered the game with one loss and was considered a threat to Good Counsel. In fact, the Cadets upset Good Counsel last year. Any chance of a repeat in 2008 was quickly removed when the Falcons scored twice in the first quarter.

31. John T. Curtis (River Ridge, La.)
Record:
7-1
Points: 104
Previous rank: 31

Sophomore Jonathon McKnight set the tempo early for John T. Curtis: He returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown as the Patriots went on to a 44-20 victory over John McDonogh. Curtis jumped out to a 22-0 lead and was able to roll up 305 yards rushing as senior RB Kenny Cain scored on runs of 19 and 55 yards to lead the way. It gets a little tougher for J.T. Curtis' club as it travels to St. James on Friday before battling Newman to close out the regular season.

32. Abilene (Abilene, Texas)
Record:
8-0
Points: 103
Previous rank: 32

Senior RB Zach Bass ran for four scores and senior QB Stephen Warren passed for 274 yards and three more as Abilene continued to run rampant through the newly realigned District 3-5A, crushing Haltom 70-6. The Eagles have now topped 63 points in their past three contests and are averaging just under 66 points per game in four district tilts so far. Undefeated Richland visits this week, however, and the Eagles have to hope they won't be out of practice should a hard-fought, close ballgame emerge after all the recent blowouts.

33. Byrnes (Duncan, S.C.)
Record:
8-1
Points: 93
Previous rank: 5

In the battle of undefeated teams, Dorman came out on top, defeating Byrnes 35-28. The Rebels' defense allowed 307 total yards of offense with 260 of those coming from the rushing attack in the loss. Byrnes travels to play Mauldin in this week's game.

34. Maine South (Park Ridge, Ill.)
Record:
9-0
Points: 86
Previous rank: 34

The No. 1-ranked Illinois team closed its regular season with a 52-0 blanking of Niles West of Skokie. Senior quarterback Charlie Goro, a Vanderbilt recruit, had his second straight five-touchdown passing game and completed 13 of 19 attempts for 247 yards. The Hawks open state Class 8A playoffs Saturday against Stevenson.

35. The Woodlands (The Woodlands, Texas)
Record:
7-0
Points: 84
Previous rank: 35

Conroe made it interesting for a half, but The Woodlands turned to Ryan Eastman, and the 6-foot-2, 215-pound senior wideout came through with two third-quarter scores as the Highlanders pulled away for a 34-10 win. Eastman made the most of his opportunities, scoring on three of his four touches in the game, but his 10-yard TD reception and 5-yard scoring run in the third pushed a tight 14-10 lead at halftime to a 27-10 bulge. Eastman also scored on a 3-yard run in the second quarter, while sophomore running back Daniel Lasco once again topped 100 yards and scored as The Woodlands rushed for 259 yards on the night. Longtime nemesis Lufkin, who is just 4-4 this year but still formidable, visits Saturday.

36. Allen (Allen, Texas)
Record:
7-1
Points: 75
Previous rank: 36

Even though Dallas Jesuit outgained the Eagles in total yardage 380-360, the game was never in doubt as Allen jumped out to a 21-0 lead and cruised to a 49-17 win. Junior QB Matt Brown accounted for over 200 yards, rushing for two scores and throwing another, while senior running back Jeremiah Williams ran for 98 yards and two TDs to power the Allen attack. Allen is at winless Plano East on Friday.

37. Oceanside (Oceanside, Calif.)
Record:
7-0
Points: 69
Previous rank: 37

Make it 18 straight wins for San Diego's top team and the defending CIF Div. II state bowl game champion. The most recent romp for the Pirates was 59-14 over Mt. Carmel. Junior running back Rene Siluano scored four touchdowns, with three rushing and one receiving. He carried 15 times for 138 yards and caught two balls for 14 yards. Junior running back/defensive back King Holder scored three touchdowns, with one each rushing, receiving and on an interception return. One-win Orange Glen is Oceanside's next opponent, so expect more of the same.

38. St. Bonaventure (Ventura, Calif.)
Record:
6-1
Points: 66
Previous rank: 39

Senior running back Patrick Hall's 88-yard touchdown run in the third quarter gave the Seraphs some breathing room in an eventual 24-7 victory over Buena. In the first half, a 60-yard TD pass from senior QB Logan Meyer to senior receiver Nolan Rodarte resulted in the first big play of the night. St. Bonaventure meets Santa Barbara on Thursday. That team started out 1-4, but in the past two weeks has won twice.

39. Madison County (Madison, Fla.)
Record:
6-0
Points: 63
Previous rank: 38

Coach Frankie Carroll made sure his team was focused against Fort White and not looking ahead to its showdown with rival Godby. The Cowboys passed the test with an impressive 44-28 win behind the legs of senior running back Corey Akins. Akins rushed for 243 yards on 23 carries and a pair of scores filling in for injured RB Chris Thompson, a Florida State pledge. Madison County locks up with undefeated Godby at Boot Hill Stadium in a nationally televised Friday night game on ESPNU.

40. Cretin-Derham Hall (St. Paul, Minn.)
Record:
10-0
Points: 52
Previous rank: 40

Even two games in a week couldn't slow down the Raiders, who have a major rematch this week with Woodbury in the Class AAAAA playoffs. On Tuesday, Cretin-Derham Hall raced past Hastings 35-7, and then on Saturday the Raiders piled up another 49 points in a 49-14 playoff win over Tartan. Senior RB Marcus Binns warmed up for Woodbury with 115 yards rushing, and junior QB Mark Alt passed for 141 yards and four TDs against Tartan, with five tosses going to senior wide receiver Sam Karel for 113 yards and three scores. Woodbury's only loss is to Cretin-Derham Hall 22-16, which also is the closest any team has come to the Raiders this season. That one was at Woodbury; this game is at the University of St. Thomas.

41. South Pointe (Rock Hill, S.C.)
Record:
9-0
Points: 51
Previous rank: 42

Senior QB Stephon Gilmore threw for 237 yards and rushed for two touchdowns as South Pointe defeated Blythewood 43-0. The shutout marks the fourth time this season South Point has blanked an opponent. South Pointe travels to Spring Valley on Friday.

42. Centennial (Peoria, Ariz.)
Record:
8-0
Points: 42
Previous rank: 43

Defense was the key, which is quite a change for a Coyotes team that averaged better than 40 points a game, as Centennial blanked previously unbeaten Westview 14-0. It held the Knights' vaunted running game to 65 yards, which is a far cry from the 316 Westview averaged coming into the showdown. On the offensive side, senior running back John Hughes rushed for 120 yards and junior RB Anthony Hughes added 82, but it was a 53-yard TD reception by junior receiver Sean Dumdie in the third quarter that gave the Coyotes the edge they needed. It was the fifth straight win by Centennial over Westview in the past four years. The Coyotes close out the regular season with games this week against Sunrise Mountain and next week versus Ironwood.

43. Union (Tulsa, Okla.)
Record:
7-1
Points: 41
Previous rank: 41

The Redskins used a dominant performance on both sides of the ball to cruise to a 61-0 victory over Ponca City. Senior running back Jeremy Smith played only the first half but still managed to rush for 128 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries. Senior tight end Tracy Moore hauled in five passes for 85 yards and two touchdowns, while Union limited Ponca City to only 19 yards in the first half. Union hosts Grant on Friday.

44. Northside (Warner Robins, Ga.)
Record:
7-1
Points: 32
Previous rank: 44

The Eagles defense held Tift County to one yard rushing on 21 attempts and picked off three passes in their 30-14 victory. Senior RB Xavier Bacon rushed for 76 yards and three touchdowns to lead the offense. Northside will host rival Warner Robins on Friday night.

45. Rockhurst (Kansas City, Mo.)
Record:
8-1
Points: 23
Previous rank: 45

Lee's Summit North opened the game's scoring, but Rockhurst ended up outscoring the Broncos on the way to a 56-14 win. Junior Sal Belfonte returned a kickoff 95 yards for a score, while senior running back Chris Castellucio ran for two scores and caught a 27-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase. Scheelhaase added a 52-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Keith Langtry and ran for a score. The Hawklets close out the regular season by hosting Joplin on Friday.

46. Center Grove (Greenwood, Ind.)
Record:
9-1
Points: 22*
Previous rank: 46

The No. 1-ranked Indiana team opened the state Class 5A sectional playoffs with a win over Terre Haute South. The Trojans led 35-7 at halftime and never looked back. Senior RB Luke Swift carried 11 times for 126 yards and two TDs. Senior QB Jordan Luallen had seven carries for 75 yards and two scores. Center Grove advances to play Bloomington South on Friday.

47. Independence (Charlotte, N.C.)
Record:
8-0
Points: 22*
Previous rank: 47

Junior QB Anthony Carrothers completed 25 of 30 passes for 334 yards and four touchdowns, helping lead his team to a 48-14 victory over Weddington. Independence totaled 454 yards of offense in the win. The Patriots next travel to East Mecklenburg for a Friday-night game.

48. Jenks (Jenks, Okla.)
Record:
7-1
Points: 11
Previous rank: 49

Jenks upended Bartlesville 50-13 for its sixth straight win. The Trojans scored six touchdowns on the ground with juniors Colton Dost and Cory Jones rushing for two apiece and senior Grant Goodwin and sophomore Zach Langer adding solo scores. Goodwin ran for a game-high 102 yards on only five carries, while Dost added 59 yards on four attempts. Meanwhile, sophomore quarterback Sawyer Kollmorgen completed 6 of 9 passes for 133 yards and a touchdown. Jenks plays at Muskogee on Friday.

49. Naperville North (Naperville, Ill.)
Record:
9-0
