Top 10 unchanged with playoffs approaching

11/10/2008

Editor's note: ESPN will release the ESPN RISE FAB 50 national football rankings to start each week of the regular season. The rankings combine three previously independent polls and are compiled by a panel of voters, including Doug Huff (Wheeling, W. Va.); Jon Mahoney (Brooklyn, N.Y.); Sheldon Shealer (Myersville, Md.); Brian Stumpf (Torrance, Calif.) and Mark Tennis
(Stockton, Calif.). Kynon Codrington, Christopher Lawlor, Mike Loveday, Bob Masajo and Paul Muyskens also contributed to the poll.

Halloween night was completely normal with no tricks and lots of treats for every ESPN RISE FAB 50 nationally-ranked team that was in action as they all posted victories.

Saturday night was almost the same, except in Texas where Lufkin High ended the undefeated hopes of No. 35 The Woodlands with a 15-13 win. The Woodlands was the only team to drop out this week from last week's FAB 50 poll.

The only new team in this week's rankings is unbeaten Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks, Calif.), which has been surging in recent weeks behind big-time junior quarterback Ryan Kasdorf.

There were a few changes in other positions this week due to some teams that had close calls. The highest of those was at No. 13 where Centennial (Corona, Calif.), was voted in front of Skyline (Sammamish, Wash.). Skyline, in fact, dropped from No. 13 down to No. 16 after a 16-13 win over Bothell. That move, however, also occurred because voters were impressed by what Centennial, Lakeland of Florida and Phoebus of Virginia did in their games.

Also Receiving Votes: Lowell (Lowell, Mich.) 10-0, Newnan (Newnan, Ga.) 9-0, St. Joseph (Montvale, N.J.) 7-0.

Dropped Out: Previous No. 35 The Woodlands (The Woodlands, Texas).

*Ties in points are broken according to which team was ranked higher by a majority of panelists.
