Starting Monday, Aug. 17, MDVarsity.com will unveil the Maryland high school football Dream Team. The term Dream Team was first used to describe the 1992 men's Olympic Basketball team that consisted of, among others, Michael Jordan, Isaiah Thomas and Charles Barkley. Our Dream Team consists of 90 of the best football players in the state, selected after months of scouting, talking to coaches and pouring over recruiting lists.

Players are chosen in part because of their college recruiting stature and the ability to impact his team. The team consists of 15 offensive and 15 defensive players and are chosen by Mike Loveday and Sheldon Shealer.

On Monday, the first-, second- and third-team Offense Dream Team members will be released followed by the defense on Tuesday.

QUARTERBACKS

Billy Cosh, Arundel
Before last season, Cosh had a few questions marks surrounding him in his first year as a starting quarterback. Eight public school state records later, the senior quarterback may be the most fun player to watch in Maryland. Cosh has a strong arm and is an accurate passer in Arundel's wide-open offensive scheme. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Cosh threw for 3,909 yards and 56 touchdowns last season -- both marks are state records. The senior recently committed to Kansas State.

Jerry Lovelocke, Edmondson
One coach at a recent quarterback event said that Lovelocke "could be the best player that's ever come out of this state if everything works out for him." The 6-foot-4, 200-pound senior threw for 2,496 yards and 25 touchdowns last season and could be the most athletic quarterback in Maryland -- the ease with which he appears to play the position impresses coaches. Lovelocke holds offers from Central Michigan, Temple, Towson, Akron and Kent State.

RUNNING BACKS

Marcus Coker, DeMatha
Coker could just as easily have been a defensive Dream Team member. The 6-foot-1, 227-pound Coker is getting college interest at running back and linebacker. As a junior he rushed for 1,174 yards and 18 touchdowns. Coker will be the main running back in the Stags' system, but will also share carries and play linebacker this season. Iowa, Maryland, Kansas State, Minnesota and Wake Forest are just a few of the schools interested in Coker.

Arlando Scott, North Point
The 5-foot-9, 180-pound junior burst onto the Maryland high school football scene last year by rushing for 1,441 yards and 16 touchdowns. A small school all-state first-team member after his junior year, Scott is one of the most dynamic players in Maryland. During North Point's Oct. 17 game against Lackey, Scott rushed for 332 yards and three touchdowns, leading his team to a 32-14 victory. Scott has received interest from Boston College, Virginia, Maryland and Penn State.

Zach Zwinak, Linganore
Zwinak could have been a first-team linebacker instead of a running back. The 6-foot-2, 235-pound senior plays offense and defense equally well and is being recruited at both positions. Last year, Zwinak led the Lancers in rushing -- totaling 1,447 yards and 19 touchdowns and averaging more than 10 yards per carry. On defense, he recorded 53 tackles and five sacks. Zwinak holds more than 15 offers from colleges across the nation. California, Kansas State, Maryland, Michigan, Notre Dame, Stanford, Wisconsin and N.C. State are just a few of the colleges in the mix for the senior.

RECEIVERS

Tyrek Cheeseboro, Milford Mill
Cheeseboro is a fluid athlete and at 6-foot, 175 pounds fit Milford Mill's offensive scheme perfectly last season. As a junior, Cheeseboro made 38 receptions for 776 yards and 11 touchdowns. Colleges began to take notice of his athleticism with Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Temple, Connecticut and West Virginia among the schools making offers over the summer. In the end, it was the University of Maryland that landed the top recruit. Cheeseboro committed to the Terrapins on July 19.

Brandon Coleman, Bishop McNamara
At 6-foot-6, 200 pounds, Coleman looks every bit the prototypical FBS wide receiver. As a junior last season, Coleman made 35 catches for 550 yards and eight touchdowns. The senior is uncommitted to college and is also a highly recruited basketball talent. Boston College, Notre Dame, Stanford, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech and Maryland are a few of the receiver's offers.

Adrian Coxson, City College

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Coxson was a small school all-state second-team selection last year after making 34 catches for 821 yards and nine touchdowns. A strong, fast receiver, Coxson held offers from Pittsburgh, Boston College, Florida, Georgia, Michigan and Notre Dame before committing to Penn State on April 30.

Matt Robinson, Atholton
At one point, MDVarsity.com claimed Robinson was one of the best-kept secrets in

Maryland. At 6-foot-4, 205 pounds, the senior has the size and athleticism to play major college football. While his recruiting took some time to get going, the senior committed to play for the University of Maryland on June 30. Last year, Robinson was a big school all-state honorable mention at defensive back.

LINEMEN

Robbie Havenstein, Linganore

Six-foot-7, 345 pounds. Does more need to be said of the Linganore offensive lineman? Havenstein anchored a line that paved the way for more than 3,000 rushing yards last season and holds offers from more than 10 colleges. Havenstein was a Consensus All-State selection last season -- one of only three juniors to be selected. Kansas State, Maryland, Wisconsin, Virginia, Rutgers and Penn State are just a few of the schools looking to add the athletic big man to their roster.

Shane Johnson, DeMatha
DeMatha's offensive line should be scary good this season in part because of players like Johnson. The 6-foot-5, 300-pound senior holds offers from Boston College, California, South Carolina, Maryland and New Mexico, among others. Johnson returns after helping anchor an offensive line that paved the way for more than 3,000 yards rushing last season.

Arie Kouandjio, DeMatha

Kouandjio is 6-foot-6 and 320 pounds of talent. The senior holds more than 30 offers, including Florida, Notre Dame, Ohio State, LSU, Penn State and Maryland. Kouandjio is one of the reasons that the Stags were able to rush for more than 3,000 yards last season and dominate the line of scrimmage in the WCAC championship game against Good Counsel.

Hussam Ouri, Broadneck

The 6-foot-2, 291-pound Ouri has played all over the offensive and defensive line for Broadneck. A starter since his sophomore season, Ouri will make the move to center for his senior season. On defense last year, Ouri recorded 40 tackles and two sacks. Ouri currently holds an offer from Navy and is receiving interest from a range of FCS schools.

ALL-PURPOSE

E.J. Scott, Good Counsel
The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Scott plays receiver and defensive back for Good Counsel and is committed to the University of Virginia. As a junior, Scott made 18 catches for 475 yards -- an average of more than 26 yards per reception. Scott said he liked Virginia's spread offense, and was recruited as an athlete by the Cavaliers.

Khalek Shepherd, Gwynn Park

Shepherd was a small school all-state second-team selection at defensive back last season, but is a college recruit at multiple positions. The 5-foot-8, 170-pound senior is the son of former NFL receiver Leslie Shepherd and holds offers from Boston College and Maryland. Last year, while splitting time at running back, Shepherd rushed for 940 yards and 14 touchdowns.
