State Scoreboard: Week 4

Game of the week: Patterson (3-0) at Poly (3-0)

Maryland High School Football Scoreboard

Every week, MDVarsity.com will update scores from games throughout the state. Here are each week's results.

Poly has the best of this matchup in recent years - winning the last three years - but this Patterson team more closely resembles the 2005 team which is the last time Patterson defeated Poly. Both teams will be playing to maintain control of their playoff destiny. Poly is currently third in 3A North with Franklin, Towson, Aberdeen, Hereford, Catonsville, Parkville and North Harford waiting for a chance to slide into one of the four available spots. Patterson is first in 4A North, but that region may be more crowded with Urbana, Woodlawn, Perry Hall and Thomas Johnson all looking to make the playoffs this season. Both teams are led by their quarterbacks; Antoine Goodson has accounted for more than 800 total yards and 11 touchdowns for Poly this season while Patterson's Aaron Overton is in charge of the offense after totaling 19 touchdowns as a junior last year.

Best Matchup: Lackey (2-1) at Urbana (3-0)

With league play getting into full swing around the state this week, the Lackey at Urbana game is one of the few not involving conference rivals. Rather, this game pits the Southern Maryland Athletic Conference (SMAC) against the Monocacy Valley Athletic League (MVAL). These teams have met the last two years, with Urbana getting the better of the series -- winning both games. Maybe the biggest difference this year is unlike the last two years, this game is not being played Week 1. That could give Lackey an advantage since they have been a slow starting team each of the past two years.

Most Important: Woodlawn (3-0) at Franklin (3-0)

Losses this week for either Woodlawn or Franklin has the potential to knock them out of a playoff spot for the time being. Franklin sits in first in 3A North, but is one of four undefeated teams with three more 2-1 teams lurking and a Hereford squad sitting at 1-1. Woodlawn has an equally difficult task in 4A North where they are currently third and one of three undefeated teams. Thomas Johnson and Kenwood are both 2-1 and looking to slide into one of the four available spots. Franklin got the best of the game last year, defeating Woodlawn, 20-12.

Star Power: Wise (3-0) at Eleanor Roosevelt (3-0)

This game could be categorized in any of the four spots, but with the potential college talent on the field Saturday, it seems to fit best here. The Raiders are probably looking for revenge after they went 10-0 in the regular season, but were knocked out of the playoffs in the first round to Wise. Wise has its share of Division I talent with at least four players holding at least one scholarship offer. Rahsaan Moore has been a touchdown machine this year, scoring more than four times this season. Roosevelt running back Richard Aiyegoro has rushed for 297 yards this season. Titus Till, a Maryland commitment, will anchor the defensive secondary for Wise while Derrick Marks will anchor the Raiders offensive and defensive lines.
