Little Rock Christian's Michael Dyer is fast approaching Arkansas' record for career rushing yards.
Position: Running back
School: Little Rock Christian (Little Rock, Ark.)
What: Needs 732 yards to become the state's career rushing leader.
Record: 7,122 yards, set from 1996-98 by Vernon Hicks of Elaine.
Notable: Dyer rushed 28 times for 340 yards and three touchdowns in a 44-42 win over Morrilton three weeks ago. The four-year regular was the EA SPORTS National Sophomore of the Year in 2007.
Position: Quarterback
School: Stevenson (Sterling Heights, Mich.)
What: Broke the Michigan record for career passing yards with 273 in a 28-21 victory last weekend over Macomb Dakota (Macomb, Mich.) in a matchup of state top-ranked and unbeaten teams. He has 7,559 passing yards with four regular-season games remaining.
Old record: 7,464 yards, set from 1986-89 by Mill Coleman, who finished at Farmington Hills Harrison.
Notable: The 5-foot-9, 170-pound Fracassa opened eyes as a junior, passing for 3,353 yards.
Position: Running back
School: Breathitt County (Jackson, Ky.)
What: Has an outside chance to become the state's career rushing leader. The University of Tennessee recruit entered the season 3,176 yards short of the mark.
Record: 8,224 yards, set from 1993-96 by Derek Homer of Fort Knox.
Notable: The 6-foot-2, 235-pound Fugate rushed for 3,052 yards as a junior but needs a strong finish (and extended playoff games) after posting 635 yards in his first five games.
Position: Kicker
School: Legacy (Broomfield, Colo.)
What: Don't be surprised if the 24-year-old national field goal distance record falls. Smith opened the season with a bang, connecting from 67 yards against Mountain Range High.
Record: 68 yards, set in 1985 by Dirk Borgonone of Reno, Nev.
Notable: Smith's 67-yarder bettered the state mark of 64 yards set in 2001. He also has converted from 52 and 51 yards in making 6-of-7 attempts this season.
