State Scoreboard: Week 9

Updated: November 2, 2009

Game of the Week: Clarksburg at Damascus, Friday 6:30 p.m.

It seems as though there is a game of the week every week in Class 3A West, but the loser will be in danger of no longer controlling its own destiny.

Maryland High School Football Scoreboard

Every week, MDVarsity.com will update scores from games throughout the state. Here are each week's results.

Clarksburg and Damascus have 6-2 records, but Damascus has a higher point average thanks to its win over Sherwood two weeks ago. Clarksburg is coming off a loss to Paint Branch and is just ahead of Seneca Valley for the fourth playoff spot. If Seneca Valley defeats Class 4A Walt Whitman, and Clarksburg loses it would likely move Seneca into the final playoff spot ahead of the Coyotes. The same situation awaits Damascus. The winner of this game should be a lock for the playoffs as both Damascus and Clarksburg have winnable games in Week 10.

Best Matchup: Archbishop Spalding at John Carroll, Friday 7 p.m.

This is another game with postseason dreams on the line. A Spalding win will cement its berth in the MIAA B conference championship game against Boys' Latin. A John Carroll win would put them in a tie with Spalding and could propel them into the championship game. The Cavaliers will have to stop John Carroll's Steven St. Clair who has rushed for 879 yards, thrown for more than 300 yards and accounted for 20 touchdowns. St. Clair is also the team's leading tackler. John Carroll will have to stop K.K. Smith who has rushed for 1,098 yards this season.

Most Important: Edmondson (4-4) at City (6-2), Friday 2:30 p.m.

This game is straightforward for Edmondson – win and stay in the playoff hunt or lose and your season ends after Week 10. The Red Storm is 4-4 and sits in sixth place in the 2A North Region. Its 38 points only leaves it six points behind City for fourth place. For City, a win would all but clinch a playoff spot, but a loss would give Edmondson 12 points and push them out.

Star Power: Atholton at River Hill, Friday 7 p.m.

One of the best one-on-one matchups this weekend will occur in this game. River Hill defensive back Kevin Johnson matching up against Atholton receiver Matt Robinson. Johnson is committed to Wake Forest and Robinson to Maryland so this is a pairing that will be seen on the college level for the next few years. River Hill also has a compliment to Johnson's running attack with Brent Kluge who has rushed for more than 600 yards. Atholton has quarterback Kalvin Seamonson to get Robinson the ball so expect some points to be scored in this game.
