Down seven points with less then three minutes to go and his team's undefeated season on the line, Catoctin's Dylan May led his team to two touchdowns and a victory, earning MDVarsity.com's State Player of the Week.
May threw for 315 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Cougars to a 35-28 victory over Middletown.
"It was unbelievable," Catoctin head coach Doug Williams said of May's performance. "He was a great decision maker, he was accurate and it was beautiful."
The senior led Catoctin to a 90-yard drive, throwing a 55-yard touchdown with 2:12 left in the game to bring the score to 28-27. A failed two-point conversion left the Cougars down with one final chance with 1:30 left in the game.
"He [May] did stuff you can't coach," Williams said. "He was just calm and confident and believed he could get it done."
May led his team on a 51-yard drive, completing passes to four different receivers on the drive. He completed a 1-yard touchdown pass to Nick Nowaczyk with 13 seconds left in the game to give Catoctin the victory.
May has thrown for 1,245 yards and 12 touchdowns this season.
The senior began last year as the starter, but lost the job midway through the season. Hard work in the offseason helped May improve and earn his starting job back this season.
"He's a better athlete then he was last year," Williams said. "He was our hardest worker in the offseason and he's been excelling very well [this season]."
Catoctin is 9-0 this season and is the No. 1 seed in the 1A North region.
