Adam Jahn, a boys' soccer player from Jesuit High of Carmichael, Calif., and Kendall Polan, a girls' volleyball setter from La Costa Canyon High of Carlsbad, Calif., have been selected as the second set of ESPN RISE National Boys' and Girls' Athletes of the Week.
Jahn, a big-time player, came up big when Jesuit needed it most on a weekend trip to New Mexico. Jahn assisted on five of the eight goals his team scored in a two-game sweep of top programs from that state. The Stanford-bound senior had a pair of assists in Jesuit's 3-1 win over La Cueva (N.M.), which helped vault the Marauders to the No. 1 ranking in this week's ESPN RISE FAB 50.
Polan is a junior setter for the extremely balanced La Costa Canyon girls' volleyball team. Like Jesuit, the Mavericks have jumped to No. 1 in the ESPN RISE FAB 50. They did it by winning the prestigious Durango Invitational tourney Saturday in Las Vegas. Polan was named MVP of the event. She set up teammates consistently well, especially in the title-game win over national power Assumption of Louisville, Ky. For more on Polan, see the story later this week on CalHiSports.com.

The ESPN RISE high school athletes of the week program will honor a national girls and boys player of the week as well as five regional players of the week each week for the rest of the season.
Ashley Spivey (McDonogh, Baltimore) Spivey, a freshman scoring machine, scored both goals as McDonogh handed Brentwood High of Brentwood, Tenn., its first soccer loss of the season. Spivey, a midfielder, netted three goals the previous week in McDonogh's 5-1 victory over Sacred Heart Academy (Ky.).
Maddie Monroe (Calhoun, Calhoun, Ga.) Monroe continues to dominate on the mound, with another impressive showing last week against crosstown Sonoraville. She led Calhoun to a 3-1 victory in an amazing effort. She recorded 19 strikeouts in seven innings of work, including an amazing 18 in a row. She allowed only two hits in the game, both coming in the seventh inning. Monroe could be one of the top players in Georgia, which is one of a handful of states that conducts softball as a fall sport.
Lindsay Flannagan (Lake Park, Roselle, Ill.) Flannagan has dominated the early girls' cross country season in Illinois, with her latest victory coming in the Richard Spring Invite on the famed Detweiller course in Peoria. Her 17:04 for 3 miles won by 41 seconds. Flannagan was 10th in the Class AAA meet last fall, but improved in the spring to the point that she ran 10:36 for 3200 and placed second at state.
Sarah Andrews (The Woodlands, Texas) A Texan came and stole the show at the prestigious Woodbridge Invitational cross country meet in California. Andrews, just a sophomore, leads the South region's No. 1 team. She blazed a 16:17 for the 3-mile Sweepstakes race, run at night under the lights. That was just 12 seconds off the course record set by Christine Babcock, who would go on to run the 1500 at the Olympic trials. Andrews struggled at her state meet last fall, but was sixth at Nike Team Nationals South and then ran 10:38 in the 3200 in the spring, later winning the state championship.
