PENSACOLA, Fla. -- "Y'all must've forgot!"
Did you really think that Roy Jones Jr.'s Nov. 8 loss to Joe Calzaghe would make him fade into oblivion? Puh-lease!
Jones, 40, is too busy self-promoting his weekend bout against Omar Sheika at the Pensacola Civic Center.
And keep a low profile?
Nah! He'd rather rave about everything from his ballin' skills to why he's king of air hockey to why he prefers to kill his own meat.
On how he would use his rewind button.
Oh I'd go back to when I was in the sixth grade and add a few inches so I'd be a little taller. Then I could start dunking a little earlier. That would be a good one.
On his first fight.
It was in first grade, I beat up a bully named Rodney Clark. Oh yeah, I remember him. He had knocked my girlfriend's glasses off and that really pissed me off. Everybody else was scared of him because, ya know, he was the bully. But when he slapped my girlfriend I had to get him. Oh yeah I won! You know that. My first knockout was when I was 13.
On how it feels to knock someone out.
It feels like you just hit a home run! Like you're the king of the mountain. It's the ultimate rush. It's because of you that that man is on his back. Yeah, it's a good feeling.
On who he wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley.
Gotta be Mike Tyson. Hell yeah! Mike Tyson can take a punch, he can throw a punch. That's a good pick right there. Did anybody NOT say Mike Tyson?
On his favorite pastime.
Fishing. It's very relaxing.
On the show he never misses.
"Beavis and Butthead." Those guys are hilarious.
On his best memory from high school.
This probably isn't a great example, but I'd say skipping class to go play basketball or skipping class to go play volleyball. Those were the times!
On why it's better to kill your own meat.
If you raise and kill your own meat, it's not full of steroids and all of that stuff. They're organic because they haven't been fed any medication, so that makes them more healthy, and it's better eating.
On the game no one can beat him at.
If we play "Mortal Kombat," I'm gonna win. It's no competition. And if we play pinball I'll win that, too. I love pinball machines. Oh, and air hockey, too. I would whip somebody in some air hockey.
On his favorite meal.
Fried chicken or lobster. Or both.
On his basketball skills.
I love playing ball. That's always. My kids are waiting on me to get back home so we can go play ball together. It gives us a chance to do something together, and we have a good time with it. I'm pretty good out there now. My sons told me you beat them, but you need to come back when I'm in town!
On retirement.
I'm just gonna talk to my team and see what happens. Now I don't want to blame anyone too prematurely, but I want to look at it. Once I got cut in the Calzaghe fight I couldn't see out of my left eye. I wondered why I couldn't see. I was just as bad when I left the corner as I was when I came to the corner. I was thinking "God, you can't stop the bleeding!"
But I couldn't say that because I look at myself and say I shouldn't have got cut. But it happens in boxing. I just didn't get any help from my team as far as stopping my cut from bleeding. I can't quit just yet. Now if I would've lost and got beat up and didn't have a chance, then OK. But I was fighting with one eye and he still couldn't knock me out. Know what I'm sayin?
