JAKE THOMPSON

DAVISON – FOOTBALL

Sophomores don't often get handed the reins of
an offense, especially at something as complex
as the quarterback position, except in extraordinary
circumstances. Then again, the year
Thompson had might well qualify as extraordinary.
The sophomore signal caller threw for nearly
2,000 yards and ran for almost 900 more while
leading his team to the Division 2 state semifinals.
Thompson was named the Flint
Journal's Player of the Year.

JORDAN LADUKE

FLUSHING – GIRLS' BASKETBALL

When coaches make their athletes perfect the art of free throw shooting,
it's with good reason — sometimes those shots can make a difference.
It's an art that appears to have been mastered by LaDuke. The
junior girls' basketball star hit only four field goals in Flushing's contest
against Flint Southwestern, but her 16-for-16 effort from the charity
stripe proved to be the difference in her team's 54-48 win on Dec. 8.
