Teams of the Year: Colorado

Boys' Team of the Year

PONDEROSA WRESTLING
Ponderosa cruised to its seventh consecutive Class 5A state championship, beating second place Pine Creek by 27.5 points. Junior Jake Snider won a state title at 140 pounds, senior Daniel Kelly won in the 145-pound weight class, junior Steven Kelly won at 152 pounds and sophomore Austin Gabel earned the championship at 160 pounds. Snider earned All-Colorado honors in his weight class. With their seventh state championship in a row, the Mustangs broke the state record for consecutive wrestling titles.

OTHER FINALISTS

DENVER EAST SOCCER
Led by junior Zach Bolden, whose 26 goals this past fall led the team, Denver East edged Regis in a two-overtime thriller for the Class 5A state title, 1-0. Senior goaltender Grant Simon picked up the shutout in the title win.

MULLEN FOOTBALL
The Mustangs captured their third state championship in 11 years with a 20- 16 win over Cherry Creek in the Class 5A title game. Sophomore running back Adonis Ameen-Moore rushed for 1,399 yards and 18 touchdowns this season.

REGIS ICE HOCKEY
The Raiders finished the season unbeaten at 22-0-1 and became the first team to repeat as state hockey champ in 12 years. Five players earned The Denver Post All-State honors, including senior Player of the Year Conor Hayes.

Girls' Team of the Year

CHERRY CREEK VOLLEYBALL
The Bruins finished the season as the nation's No. 15 team in the ESPN RISE FAB 50. Cherry Creek finished with a perfect 31-0 record and avenged last year's title match loss to Grandview in the Class 5A state championship game. Senior outside hitter and San Diego recruit Carrie Baird earned Under Armour All-American honors and was named the All-Colorado Player of the Year by both The Rocky Mountain News and The Denver Post. Senior Gabi Dewberry earned All-Colorado honors, while senior Samantha Peters earned All-State second team honors.

OTHER FINALISTS

GREEN MOUNTAIN GYMNASTICS
After its gymnasts finished an unprecedented 1-2-3 in the all-around to win the Broomfield Invitational, Green Mountain followed up by winning the 5A state title. Senior Kelly Stone finished fourth overall to pace the Rams.

LEGACY SOFTBALL
Legacy boasted both the state's best pitcher by The Rocky Mountain News -- junior Shelby Babcock -- and the best hitter -- sophomore catcher Buggs Torrez. Bolstered by both stars, Legacy won its second straight Class 4A title.

REGIS BASKETBALL
The Raiders weren't going to be denied after reaching the Class 5A semifinals in 2007 and the Class 5A finals in 2008. Led by All-Colorado seniors T'Keyah Shealy and Mariah Williams, Regis claimed the 5A state title this year.
