BOYS' TEAM OF THE YEAR

SKYLINE
Football
With stars all over the gridiron, the Spartans showed their opponents no mercy en route to a second straight undefeated season and Class 4A crown. Skyline finished No. 13 in the ESPN RISE FAB 50 rankings. Offensively, the Spartans boasted the trio of senior WR Gino Simone (14 receiving TDs), sophomore receiver Kasen Williams (51 catches, 12 TDs) and senior QB Jake Heaps, who earned Gatorade and Class 4A Player of the Year honors. Junior LB Anthony DeMatteo anchored a stifling defense that held 11 opponents to single digits.

OTHER FINALISTS

LAKESIDE
Cross Country
The Eagles placed a pair of runners in the Top 10 to claim the Class 1A title. Senior Josh Alexander placed fourth  just four seconds out of second place  while classmate Paul Lewis took ninth overall.

SEHOME
Swimming
The Mariners blew the competition out the water, putting up a gaudy 142 points  80 points better than second-place Aberdeen  to win the Class 2A state crown. Sehome took home five individual titles and three relays on the day.

VASHON ISLAND
Basketball
Behind 20 points from junior John Gage, Vashon Island unequivocally clinched the Class 1A crown with a 49-24 win over King's. Senior Thomas Timm-Skove added 13 points for the Pirates, who celebrated their third state title.

GIRLS' TEAM OF THE YEAR

KENNEDY
Basketball
After falling short in three prior state final appearances, Kennedy won the Class 3A title, finishing the year unblemished at 28-0. The Lancers became the first team since 1994 to win the Class 3A crown undefeated. The preseason favorites were rarely tested in the winter, overpowering their foes throughout the season and taking their first championship with a 50-43 defeat of Shadle Park. Junior guard Yaz Fuller was selected as tourney MVP after scoring 20 points in the finals, while sophomore Aminah Williams added 12 points and 10 rebounds.

OTHER FINALISTS

EVERETT
Soccer
Everett captured its first state title in dominating fashion, outscoring opponents 17-3 during the four-game playoff run. Senior Valerie Stahl headlined a stingy defense, which recorded 10 shutouts on the season.

SEDRO-WOOLLEY
Wrestling
Led by sophomore Alysia Pohren, who won the crown at 125 pounds, the Cubs racked up 109.5 points to take the Mat Classic XXI championship. Sophomore Jalysse Garcia took third in the 140-pound weight class.

SHADLE PARK
Volleyball
The Highlanders claimed their sixth state title  the first since 1993  by defeating Eastside Catholic in three games in November. Senior Amy Before tallied a team-high 10 kills and 18 digs in the title game.
