CATALINA FOOTHILLS GIRLS' TRACK
Ahanonu had never tried track until this season but had been a very successful gymnast. Few would have known about her inexperience when they saw her compete in a meet against Sunnyside and Pueblo on April 1. Despite participating in track season solely to keep in shape for her future gymnastics endeavors, the senior won both the 100 and 200. The wins helped Catalina win the meet.

CHANDLER BOYS' TRACK
The race could go down as the closest of the spring, but Wheaton knew he had won before the results were announced. He had a feeling, and he was right. The senior 400-meter sprinter edged Spencer Chase of Desert Vista by 0.01 seconds at the prestigious Chandler Rotary Track Invitational on March 28, and his final result of 47.38 seconds was the second-fastest in the nation at the time.
