New No. 1 in Week 8 rankings

Updated: October 21, 2008, 3:57 PM ET

ESPN will release the ESPN RISE FAB 50 national boys' soccer rankings each Tuesday of the regular season and playoffs, continuing through the final games of the various state playoffs around the nation. For the state-by-state rankings, click here.

Now, it's Brentwood's turn.

This perennial New York power inherits the FAB 50 No. 1 ranking after Sacramento Jesuit was held to a draw last week. To finish No.1, Brentwood must win all of its remaining games, which will include a playoff run that could have this squad face three FAB 50 opponents.

Rockhurst Jesuit (Mo.) returned to the FAB 50 with a 1-0 victory over Christian Brothers (Mo.), and Hopewell Junction John Jay (N.Y.), not to be confused with East Fishkill John Jay in the same area, enters the rankings in a week with very little turnover. Forty-eight of last week's 50 teams remain in the rankings. Just on the outside of the FAB 50 is a series of teams just waiting for an opening: Homestead (Ind.), Paramus Catholic (N.J.), Broughton (N.C.), Central Bucks East (Pa.) and Guilford (Conn.).

Rankings through matches played as of Sunday, Oct. 19.

ESPN RISE FAB 50 BOYS' SOCCER RANKINGS: WEEK 8 (Nos. 1-25)
Rank School (City, State) Record Previous Rank Notes
1 Brentwood (Brentwood, N.Y.) 15-0-0 2 Hancell Guevara netted the lone goal in Brentwood's 1-0 victory over Sachem East, which secured a sixth straight league title and extended the program's league undefeated streak to 75 matches.
2 Sacramento Jesuit (Carmichael, Calif.) 20-0-1 1 A draw with Vintage last week costs the Marauders the No. 1 ranking, but a slip up by Brentwood could vault this team back to the top spot.
3 St. Anthony's (Melville, N.Y.) 14-0-1 4 Adam Weinzimmer and Mike Valencia scored in St. Anthony's 2-1 FAB 50 clash with Chaminade last week.
4 Rancocas Valley (Mount Holly, N.J.) 13-0-1 5 Rancocas Valley's win sheet list is a virtual Who's Who of New Jersey soccer with wins over Delbarton, St. Benedict's and, last week, Shawnee.
5 Plymouth Salem (Canton, Mich.) 20-0-4 3 Plymouth Salem was pushed to PKs, yet survived to advance to the final 16 of the Michigan Division I state playoffs.
6 Myers Park (Charlotte, N.C.) 16-0-0 6 Myers Park faces South Meck on Wednesday in a meeting of North Carolina top 10 teams.
7 St. Louis University High (St. Louis, Mo.) 19-2-0 7 Defender Chris Gomez scored the lone goal as SLUH edged St. John Vianney 1-0 in a battle of top 25 programs.
8 New Trier (Winnetka, Ill.) 14-1-0 10 New Trier starts postseason play this week.
9 St. Benedict's (Newark, N.J.) 14-1-0 11 The Gray Bees survived another challenging week with a pair of one-goal wins over former FAB 50 Delbarton and Lawrenceville Prep before defeating Walt Whitman (Md.) 3-0.
10 Downingtown West (Downingtown, Pa.) 16-1-0 12 Downingtown West carries an eight-match win streak into the district playoffs.
11 Chaminade (Mineola, N.Y.) 13-1-3 8 Despite Chaminade's loss to St. Anthony's, the team remains high in the FAB 50 partly because there likely will be another, and more meaningful, meeting between the two powers later this month in the playoffs.
12 Beacon (New York, N.Y.) 14-0-1 9 Although Beacon won twice last week, it remains linked to Chaminade in the national rankings since these two teams played to a scoreless draw.
13 Pingry School (Martinsville, N.J.) 10-0-1 13 Pingry is ranked No. 1 in New Jersey, but a draw with Chaminade keeps it below the New York Catholic League power.
14 Lexington (Lexington, Mass.) 14-0-0 18 Lexington's perfect start has people talking about this team as being one of Massachusetts' best squads in recent years.
15 Reitz Memorial (Evansville, Ind.) 19-0-2 16 Reitz Memorial won twice last week to remain alive for a second straight Indiana state title.
16 Rangeview (Aurora, Colo.) 13-0-2 17 A 4-3 win over Regis Jesuit last week gives Rangeview the Continental Conference title.
17 DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.) 13-0-4 19 DeMatha and Gonzaga meet Friday in a match that will determine the No. 1 seed for the upcoming WCAC playoffs.
18 Lower Merion (Ardmore, Pa.) 14-1-1 20 Lower Merion closed out regular season play with a 10-0 win over Garnet Valley and it had shutouts in five of its last six matches.
19 St. John Vianney (St. Louis, Mo.) 18-3-1 14 Vianney's chance to return to the top 10 slipped away in a 1-0 loss to SLUH last week.
20 Norfolk Academy (Norfolk, Va.) 18-0-0 21 Maryland commit Jordan Cyrus became the school's all-time leading scorer during the team's win over Hampton Roads Academy. Two postseason tournaments await the Bulldogs.
21 Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.) 17-1-1 22 Gonzaga could be in position to play DeMatha twice within 10 days; once in the regular season finale and again in the WCAC final.
22 Guilderland (Guilderland Center, N.Y.) 15-0-0 23 Guilderland closed out an undefeated regular season with a three-win week.
23 St. Xavier (Louisville, Ky.) 16-1-0 25 St. Xavier atoned for its lone defeat by beating DuPont Manual 4-0. Manual won the first meeting 1-0.
24 Naperville Central (Naperville, Ill.) 15-2-2 26 Naperville Central, ranked No. 2 in the Chicago area, climbs back into the top 25 for the first time since early in the season.
