Will Martin and Carrie Diamond capped their high school soccer careers with state titles.
Now, each receives one more honor -- ESPNRISE.com national soccer player of the week.
Martin, who was in on five goals in three state tournament matches last week, and Diamond, who figured in three scores in the state final, are the final player of the week honorees for the 2008-09 school year.
Players are recognized for their accomplishments from the previous week (Monday through Sunday).
BOYS' SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Will Martin, Frank Cox (Virginia Beach, Va.), senior, midfielder
Martin played forward and midfield throughout Cox's state title-winning season, and he appeared to be all over the field during the team's surprising 4-0 state semifinal win over Westfield.
Martin assisted on the first two goals and scored the last two as Cox cruised to the state final, where it defeated Mills Godwin (Henrico, Va.) 2-1 in overtime.
Martin assisted on the team's goal in a 1-0 state quarterfinal win over Gar-Field (Woodbridge, Va.), giving him two goals and three assists for the week.
Finalist
Tanner Schilling, Iowa City West (Iowa City, Iowa): The sophomore forward broke a 1-1 tie with two unassisted goals in a four-minute span to carry Iowa City West to a 3-2 victory over Ames in the Iowa Class 3-A final. The victory marked West's fourth soccer title and came after back-to-back state runner-up finishes.
GIRLS' SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Carrie Diamond, Lower Dauphin (Hummelstown, Pa.), senior, forward
Diamond made her final soccer match one to remember.
She scored two goals and assisted on one as Lower Dauphin handled Hempfield 4-0 in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class AAA spring state final.
The Princeton-bound Diamond has been a two-sport star in soccer and field hockey but has opted to play only field hockey on the college level.
Finalists
Toni Kokenis, Hinsdale Central (Ill.): Kokenis scored the deciding goal as Hinsdale Central claimed its first state title with a 2-1 victory over Fremd (Palatine, Ill.). Kokenis, a junior, finished with 26 goals and 10 assists.
