Mortimer Jordan High School (Morris, Ala.) cruised to its second straight state title this year, with a record of 50-2. The Blue Devils didn't just win; they dominated.

Blair Johnson has nine titles already and is hoping for more.

Back-to-back titles are impressive, but for one Blue Devil, it's just another piece of hardware for the trophy case.

For sophomore pitcher Blair Johnson, winning championships is second nature. She has won not one, not two, but nine titles in her life. Blair's success goes all the way back to her T-ball days.

"She won a championship with her T-ball team when she first started," said her father, Wayne Johnson. "From there she won the coach pitch championship at the youth level."

As Blair aged and the tournaments became more important, the wins became even more impressive. She went on to win a 10-and-under, 12U, 14U and 16U state championships with the Birmingham Vipers Travel team. During her 10U season the Vipers took home the USAA World Series title. And now she is 2-for-2 in high school championships.

"I'm superstitious, so I didn't want to say anything and jinx it," said Wayne, "but she is blessed, and a good little ball player."

It is hard to jinx talent. Blair has a 51-2 career record on the mound for the Blue Devils, 27 of which were shutouts.

The 5-foot-5 Blair batted .423 in 2008 and .415 in 2009 and accounted for 117 runs scored and 93 RBIs over two years.

Her mental approach is as impressive as her talent.

"I just go out there and take it one inning at a time," she said. "I just like to have fun. I want to win every game we play. You just have to be confident in yourself."

Despite her success, Blair isn't counting trophies.

"I really didn't know." she laughed. "I don't pay attention to those things, I just play. When I first heard, I was shocked but it's exciting."

With so many great games on her résumé, Blair points to her high school titles, the most recent coming against Cullman High School as her most memorable.

"Definitely the two high school state championships," she said. "The second championship with my high school was awesome. It felt better to win the second time than the first, we felt like we had accomplished a lot."

It is safe to say that Blair is a championship player who knows what it takes to win ball games. She says the reason she is successful is because of her determination, her will to win and of course, a little help from her family.

"I think my fire and my competitiveness are what have gotten me to this point. I have that desire and I always strive to be the best," she said. "I think I get that from my dad."

"My whole family has been very supportive, but my mom and dad are the big ones," she continued. "They both work, but they are at every game regardless of what time it is."

With the 2009 high school season completed, Blair is gearing up for more softball. Even though she has nine championships under her belt, she isn't quite finished yet.

"My goal is for my high school team to win state two more times," she said.

Will she win her 10th title in 2010? Next year just might bring her count to double digits.
