Kellie Schueler of Summit High in Bend.

The sophomore sprinter set three Class 5A state meet records and won four gold medals to lead the Thundercats to the state championship as a team. Schueler won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.01 seconds, the 200-meter dash in 24.54 seconds and the 400-meter run in 55.04 seconds as she swept those three events for a second straight year. Schueler also helped the 4-x-400-meter relay quartet set a state-meet record with a winning time of 3:55.11. As a freshman in 2007, Schueler led the 4-x-100-meter relay squad to a state-meet record with a time of 48.89 seconds.

Schueler has maintained a 4.0 GPA in the classroom and ranks first in her class. In addition to donating her time running a track camp at Summit High, she volunteers at Feed the Hungry Soup Kitchen and the Mount Bachelor Sports Education Foundation, helping to encourage academic achievement and promote the value of skiing with area youth.

"Schueler's pretty darn amazing," said Jacob Michaels, head coach at rival Franklin High. "Not only is she a good sprinter, but she can run a good 800. She was also 10th in the state in cross country. That shows unbelievable range. She always runs four races in every meet. She is incredible, absolutely incredible."

Schueler will begin her junior year of high school this fall.
