ESPN Radio will begin its fourth season of Major League Baseball coverage
Sunday April 1, 2001 with its season opening broadcast of the Texas Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays from San Juan, Puerto Rico. The game will mark the major league managerial debut of former ESPN baseball analyst Buck Martinez.
For the the third straight year, Baseball will open a new season outside the United States. In 1999, the Colorado Rockies and San Diego Padres opened in Monterrey, Mexico while the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets began the 2000 season in Tokyo, Japan.
In 2001, ESPN Radio will broadcast the Sunday Night Baseball Game of the Week, the All Star Game from Safeco Field in Seattle, and every game of the Divisional Playoffs, League Championship Series, and World Series.
Jon Miller and Joe Morgan, baseball's preeminent commentating team, have both signed with ESPN to continue on Sunday Night Baseball through 2005. The duo, who will begin their 12th season together on April 1 when Texas meets Toronto in Puerto Rico at 4 p.m. ET, will also call the World Series
on ESPN Radio each year. Miller and Morgan will call one League Championship Series in addition to the World Series on ESPN Radio.
