PITTSBURGH -- Los Angeles Dodgers right fielder Andre Ethier suffered a slight injury to his left ankle during Wednesday night's loss to Pittsburgh when he landed awkwardly on the first-base bag while scrambling back during a pickoff attempt in the fifth inning.
Ethier was out of the starting lineup for Thursday's series finale, and while the injury isn't believed to be serious, Dodgers manager Joe Torre said he wasn't sure when Ethier would return. The Dodgers picked up their first win of the season anyway 10-2.
Ethier played the rest of Wednesday's game, then underwent X-rays that showed no serious damage. He is listed as day to day.
"I didn't know [he was hurt] until after the game, although I saw when he did it,'' Torre said. "He has some swelling in there, and he has some discomfort. Aside from that, I think that's about it.''
