Ramirez on track for Saturday return
LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles Dodgers left fielder Manny Ramirez remains on track to come off the 15-day disabled list in time for Saturday night's game with Colorado. He will conclude his two-game, minor-league rehabilitation assignment with Class A Inland Empire by playing left field on Thursday night at Lake Elsinore.
Ramirez was the designated hitter for the 66ers on Tuesday night, going 1 for 3 with an RBI single, then worked out at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday.
Ramirez injured his right calf running out a base hit on April 22 at Cincinnati. He was placed on the DL the next day.
Ramirez, who is in the final season of a two-year, $45 million contract and probably his last season with the Dodgers, was off to an outstanding start, batting .415 with four doubles, two home runs, 12 RBI and a .500 on-base percentage.
His return will be timely for the Dodgers, who will be in the middle of a critical three-game series against the Rockies, a division rival that was a popular preseason choice to dethrone the Dodgers atop the National League West.Tony Jackson covers the Dodgers for ESPNLosAngeles.com.
