Furcal not ready to come off DL yet
SAN DIEGO -- The return of Dodgers shortstop Rafael Furcal from the 15-day disabled list has been delayed by a day and possibly longer. Furcal said before Friday night's game against the San Diego Padres, for which he was expected to be activated, that his strained left hamstring still wasn't 100-percent healthy.

"I don't know,'' Furcal said when asked when would be activated. "They have to see. I just have to keep working on it and see when it gets better."
Furcal played six innings defensively in each of two minor-league rehabilitation games with high Single-A Inland Empire on Tuesday and Wednesday.
"I felt it a little bit when I was playing there," he said. "But afterward, I felt it a little bit more."
Furcal said if it were his choice, he would have come off the DL and play despite the lingering discomfort. At the same time, though, he didn't question the decision of the team's medical staff to keep him sidelined a little longer.

"They are my trainers, and they know better than I do," Furcal said. "I don't want to say I can play, then play two innings, then have to come out and go back on the DL again. It's better to lose today than to lose 50 more games. We'll see. If I have to go back to the minor leagues and play a couple more games, we'll do it. The way I feel right now, I just don't feel like I can play the way I want to play."
Veteran utility man Jamey Carroll, who has played all but two innings at shortstop for the Dodgers since Furcal was injured April 27, was back in the lineup Friday night. During Furcal's absence, Carroll is hitting .308 (16 for 52) with two doubles and five RBIs, and the Dodgers are 9-6 in the 15 games he has started.
