CINCINNATI -- The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled reliever Travis Schlichting from their Triple-A Albuquerque affiliate on Wednesday to fill the roster spot vacated when right-hander Chad Billingsley was put on the 15-day disabled list.

Schlichting had one previous major league stint this season, but it was a short one: he was recalled on May 30 when Scott Elbert was sent back to Albuquerque, and was then sent back on June 3 when Charlie Haeger was activated from the DL. Haeger was put back on the DL four days after that.

While in the majors, Schlichting made one appearance, shutting out the Arizona Diamondbacks on three hits over the final four innings of a 14-inning game on June 2 and earning the victory. Schlichting was optioned to Albuquerque the following day.

His newest big league stint could be just as short. With Vicente Padilla set to come off the disabled list in time to start Saturday against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park, the Dodgers will need to clear a roster spot, and Schlichting probably will be the easiest player to send down because he has minor league options remaining.
