LOS ANGELES -- Dennis Gilbert, the Beverly Hills businessman and former head of Beverly Hills Sports Council, had little to say when asked on Tuesday about rumors he may be in line to buy the Los Angeles Dodgers if Frank McCourt decides to sell the team.

McCourt presently is embroiled in a messy, expensive divorce with his estranged wife, former Dodgers president Jamie McCourt.

"As far as I know, the team is not for sale," Gilbert said.

Asked whether he would have an interest in buying the team if it does end up on the market, Gilbert declined to comment.

In addition to running his high-end insurance firm, Gilbert also presently serves as a special assistant to Chicago White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf. Gilbert is a regular presence at Dodger Stadium, as he holds season tickets in the front row of the Dugout Club, directly behind home plate. Gilbert and a group of investors he organized recently failed in their bid to purchase the Texas Rangers.
