Dodgers to open 2011 at home vs. S.F.
Major League Baseball released preliminary schedules for all 30 clubs Tuesday. The Dodgers' opener will be their first at home since 2008, when they also opened against the Giants. The two teams will play a four-game series, running through Monday, April 4, before the Dodgers hit the road for the first time, an eight-game trip to Colorado, San Diego and San Francisco.

As reported several weeks ago by ESPNLosAngeles.com, the interleague portion of the Dodgers' schedule will include road series against the Chicago White Sox (May 20-22), Minnesota Twins (June 28-30) and Los Angeles Angels (July 1-3) and home series against the Detroit Tigers (June 20-22) and Angels (June 24-26).
The fact the season is beginning on a Friday rather than at the beginning of the week -- a result of commissioner Bud Selig's commitment to having the postseason entirely contained within the month of October -- also means the season will end on a Wednesday. The Dodgers finish the season with a six-game trip to San Diego and Arizona, with their final game against the Diamondbacks scheduled for 6:40 p.m. on Sept. 28 at Chase Field.
The Dodgers' final home series also is against the Giants, on Sept. 20-22.
The Dodgers' season opener with the Giants, which is set for 1:10 p.m., might not be the Giants' season opener. There are tentative plans for a season-opening series in Taiwan between the Giants and Arizona Diamondbacks, which would take place about a week before the Giants go to Los Angeles to play the Dodgers.
