A doctor cleaned up scar tissue and debris and did a bone graft on the left ankle of slugger Kendrys Morales during Thursday's three-hour procedure, according to the Los Angeles Angels.

Morales elected earlier this month to undergo a second operation on the leg he broke last May 29 while celebrating a game-winning home run. Dr. Thomas Clanton of Vail, Colo., performed the surgery.

According to the Angels, the operation went "according to plan." Morales had his first surgery last June 10, but ran into repeated setbacks in his rehabilitation.

Morales finished fifth in MVP balloting after his breakout 2009 season. He won't return until spring training of 2012 at the earliest.
