Baron Davis (knee) could miss trip
Clippers guard Baron Davis missed his second straight game Wednesday with what coach Vinny Del Negro said was swelling due to a cyst behind his knee.
Davis averaged more than 32 minutes in the Clippers' first three games before being shut down before Monday's loss to San Antonio. He missed Wednesday's 107-92 win over Oklahoma City, and Del Negro couldn't say for sure whether he'll miss the Clippers' upcoming four-game road trip to Utah, Denver, New Orleans and San Antonio.
"I'm not sure yet," Del Negro said when asked about Davis' status for the road trip. "We've got to see how he responds day-to-day, see how his knee responds and then make a decision."
When asked by ESPNLosAngeles.com whether he agreed with that timetable -- the road trip concludes Wednesday in San Antonio -- Davis said, "Yeah, that sounds about right."
"We're kind of just throwing him in there so I want to make sure I keep his confidence up, his aggressiveness up, so he can work through the mistakes as he goes through them," Del Negro said of Bledsoe.
"It's a growth period for him. It's kind of a difficult situation for him a little bit, but it's also a great situation and he's handling it well. I expect him to play hard and get us into our sets when we need to, but obviously we're not as versatile with what we could do in having a lot of young guys out there."
Davis' struggles with his weight and conditioning at the start of training camp have been well-chronicled. The talented former All-Star from UCLA has become somewhat of a lightning rod for criticism as the Clippers got off to an 0-4 start.
Del Negro, in particular, has been blunt in his assessment of Davis.
So far, Davis has taken the criticism in stride.
"I don't have any excuses," Davis said. "And I've got thick skin, too."
