LOS ANGELES -- USC wide receivers coach John Morton has accepted a job on Jim Harbaugh's staff with the San Francisco 49ers, coach Lane Kiffin announced Tuesday.

Morton was the lone holdover from Pete Carroll's staff at USC. He has long-standing ties with Harbaugh, who left Stanford to take the 49ers job earlier this month. Both worked as assistants on the Oakland Raiders in 2002 and 2003 and Morton later served under Harbaugh at the University of San Diego.

"This is a great opportunity for John to further his career," Kiffin said in a statement. "We appreciate the great work he did at USC and wish him the best of luck."

Morton was at USC for four seasons and worked with current NFL receivers Damian Williams and Patrick Turner. Kiffin has not yet picked Morton's successor.
