Vernon Teel dismissed
Loyola Marymount might have advanced to the quarterfinal round of the West Coast Conference tournament, but coming off the team's biggest win of the season, the Lions were without second-leading scorer and rebounder Vernon Teel Saturday night against Santa Clara after dismissing him from the program. They lost 76-68.
The senior guard received all-WCC honorable mention recognition earlier in the week and averaged 12.8 points and 5.7 rebounds per game this season.
Teel had 13 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals in eighth-seeded Loyola Marymount's 72-68 win Friday against Portland in Las Vegas, but did not start.
"This was an internal decision that we felt was best for our team and our program," Loyola Marymount coach Max Good said in a statement. "This was strictly based on internal issues and was not attributed to behavior in or around the WCC tournament."
