SoCal represented at World Cup

U.S. team has a number of players from the area and others with strong local ties

Southern California's impact in the World Cup since 1990 can't be denied.

Each of the six U.S. teams to play on soccer's greatest stage since 40 years in the wilderness ended with Paul Caligiuri's -- make that Southern Californian Paul Caligiuri's -- "shot heard 'round the world" has featured players from these parts in prominent roles, and the American side that faces England in its World Cup opener Saturday outside Rustenburg, South Africa, is no different.
