L.A. seems uninspired in a 3-1 loss to the Padres, who take over first in the West

LOS ANGELES -- Human nature can be a hard thing to overcome.

Once again, the Los Angeles Dodgers were no match for it Wednesday night, and they weren't much of a match for the San Diego Padres, either, succumbing all too easily in a 3-1 defeat before 33,728 at Dodger Stadium.

It isn't that the Dodgers have quit on the season. Quit, after all, is a strong word. But given they are mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, a mere three losses shy of being mathematically eliminated ...
