ANAHEIM, Calif. -- An 18-year-old outfielder who's leading the Midwest League in hitting has been picked for the All-Star Futures Game next month.
The game features prospects from all over the minors. It will be played on July 11 at Angel Stadium, two days before the ballpark hosts the major league All-Star game.
Among the 50 players picked Tuesday for the U.S. and World team rosters was Mike Trout, who's hitting .370 for the Angels' Class A affiliate in Cedar Rapids.
Other teenagers chosen were pitchers Shelby Miller of St. Louis, Jordan Lyles of Houston and Julio Teheran of Atlanta.
Several stars from last year's Futures Game in St. Louis are now in the majors, including Jason Heyward, Neftali Feliz and Carlos Santana.
