Rangers GM Jon Daniels said Adrian Beltre has a lower back strain and is day to day. He said the MRI showed nothing major. Texas is flying in players just in case the back worsens. If they need to replace him, Beltre would not be eligible to play again until the World Series "The news would have to worse than it is now for us to consider that."

Rangers take Game 1 from Blue Jays

The Rangers tagged David Price for five earned runs over seven innings en route to picking up the 5-3 victory in Game 1 of the ALDS. Adrian Beltre, Josh Donaldson and Jose Bautista all left the game with injuries.


Astros struggle on the road

The Astros face the Royals at Kauffman Stadium in Game 1 of the ALDS tonight, but Houston has been better on the road: Their 33-48 away record is seventh-worst in MLB, and they're 12-22 on the road after the All-Star Break (fourth-worst).

The Rangers knocked off the heavily favored Blue Jays 5-3 in Game 1 of their division series. Not only that, they have Cole Hamels starting Game 2 (he was 7-1 with a 3.66 ERA after being dealt to Texas). Now, if only Adrian Beltre is able to recover and return quickly from his back injury.

Jose Bautista exits game

The Blue Jays RF hit a HR in the sixth, but as he went up the steps to take the field in the top of the ninth, Joey Bats stopped, bent over and went back into the dugout. Dalton Pompey took his place in RF as the Rangers lead 5-3. Follow live

Rangers 2B Rougned Odor was hit by a pitch both times in his previous two at-bats, but his solo HR off the first pitch he saw in the seventh has the Rangers up 5-3. Odor is the fourth player in postseason history with two HBP and a HR in one game. Follow live

Alex Rios will start in right field for the Royals on Thursday, marking his first postseason appearance after 1,691 regular-season games. According to Elias, it is the most since Carlos Delgado made his postseason debut in 2006 after playing in 1,711 regular-season games.
