• 7:05 ET: No. 3 starter Carlos Silva and first baseman Justin Morneau return to active duty for the Minnesota Twins, who face the Detroit Tigers and Mike Maroth.

• 7:05: Kevin Brown takes the mound in Yankee Stadium against the Texas Rangers, and the crowd is primed to embrace him -- or bury him with boos. Chris Young throws for Texas.

• 7:35: Mike Hampton vs. Brett Myers, Part II. The Phillies are in Atlanta, following the Hampton-Myers duel of last Sunday night. Best matchup of the day.

• 7:35: The Reverse Lock of the day has Aaron Harang and the Reds in Florida, facing A.J. Burnett. According to Sportswriter Creed, all logic says the Marlins should win. So they won't.

• 8:35: The Dodgers and Jeff Weaver in Colorado, against Jason Jennings. We know L.A. can't lose near sea level, but what can they do a mile high?

• 10:15: Veteran lefty Kirk Rueter has looked like he doesn't have enough stuff to win a Wiffleball tournament lately. He and the Giants open a three-game series against the Brewers, with Victor Santos throwing for Milwaukee.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly from Thursday
The Good: John Smoltz doesn't have a win yet, but if you've seen his stuff, you know he's going to be just fine. He was electric on Thursday, before the Braves' ninth-inning comeback to beat Washington.

The Bad: Kansas City seemed to make about 50,000 mistakes in losing to the Minnesota Twins on Thursday. And the Royals aren't good enough to play like that.

The Ugly: The Cubs already had a hole in their bullpen and in their outfield. Now they're playing Neifi Perez at shortstop for the foreseeable future. The Cardinals are looking better and better.
