Red Sox: Deal with Rangers for A-Rod is "dead"
BOSTON - The Boston Red Sox are blaming the Players Association for the demise of a proposed trade with the Texas Rangers involving superstar shortstop Alex Rodriguez.
The teams could not get the deal done by Thursday's 5 p.m. EST deadline set by Commissioner Bud Selig.
"The proposed trade ... is dead," declared Red Sox president and CEO Larry Lucchino. "The Players Association's intransigence and the arbitrary nature of its action are responsible for the deal's demise today."
