Mariners release Appier; comeback bid over
SEATTLE -- The Seattle Mariners ended Kevin Appier's attempt to pitch in the major leagues for the first time in 26 months, releasing the veteran right-hander from his minor league contract Friday.
Appier, 38, was 1-2 with a 4.54 ERA in 10 games, five starts, for Triple-A Tacoma. He started well there after missing the last two weeks of an impressive spring training with a torn calf muscle.
