Beckett scratched from start against Angels with stiff neck

BOSTON -- Josh Beckett was scratched from his start for the Boston Red Sox against the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night because of a stiff neck.

David Pauley was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket and started against the Angels while utility man Joe Thurston was designated for assignment to make room on the roster. Pauley allowed five runs and seven hits in four-plus innings, taking the no-decision as Boston rallied 7-6.
