Rangers, McCarthy avoid arbitration
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Injury-plagued pitcher Brandon McCarthy agreed to a $650,000, one-year contract with the Texas Rangers on Thursday.
McCarthy, who was eligible for salary arbitration, missed the first four months of last season because of right forearm inflammation, then pitched only 22 innings in his five starts (1-1, 4.09 ERA) in August and September. His last appearance was Sept. 15, then he didn't pitch again because of a strained flexor tendon in his right middle finger.
