Laird, Jackson, Zumaya, Seay agree with Tigers
DETROIT -- Catcher Gerald Laird and pitchers Edwin Jackson, Joel Zumaya and Bobby Seay agreed Tuesday to one-year contracts with the Detroit Tigers, while right-hander Justin Verlander was unable to settle and swapped proposed figures with the team in salary arbitration.
Verlander, 11-7 with a 4.84 ERA for the last-place Tigers in 2008, asked for a raise from $1.13 million to $4.15 million whole Detroit offered $3.2 million. If the sides don't settle, the case will go to a hearing next month.
