Orioles, LHP Sherrill avoid arbitration

The Baltimore Orioles have re-signed All-Star closer George Sherrill to a one-year, $2.75 million deal, avoiding a hearing with their last arbitration-eligible player not signed.

The left-hander finished seventh last season in the American League with 31 saves despite a nearly one-month stint on the disabled list with shoulder inflammation, closing out only one game after July 27.
