Angels retain longtime utility man

The Los Angeles Angels have reached agreement on a minor league deal to retain longtime reserve infielder Robb Quinlan.

The move makes sense since the Angels are desperately thin on reserves, with Maicer Izturis the one proven backup infielder. Quinlan, who can back up Kendry Morales at first base and play a little third base and outfield, is a .281 lifetime hitter in seven seasons with the Angels.

Quinlan, 33, played sparingly in 2009, batting .243 in 115 at-bats.
