La Russa hasn't set rest of rotation

10/22/2004 - St. Louis Cardinals

BOSTON -- Woody Williams will start Game 1 of the World Series for the St. Louis Cardinals, manager Tony La Russa said Friday after the team arrived in Boston to play the Red Sox.

The rest of the rotation had not been determined.

Williams allowed just one hit in seven innings and didn't allow a baserunner past second base in Game 5 of the NL Championship Series despite straining a calf muscle running to first base while batting in the top of the third inning. He is 2-0 with a 2.84 ERA in the playoffs, with 11 strikeouts and four walks in 19 innings over three starts.

La Russa also said that he hadn't decided who will be the designated hitter for the games in Boston.
