FLUSHING, New York -- The Kansas City Royals, looking to bolster their bullpen, acquired lefthander Jaime Cerda from the New York Mets for righthander Shawn Sedlacek on Monday.
The 25-year-old Cerda, who split last season between the Mets and Class AAA Norfolk, joins Curtis Leskanic, Jason Grimsley, Mike MacDougal, Scott Sullivan, D.J. Carrasco and potentially Jeremy Affeldt in the bullpen.
Cerda was 1-1 with a 5.85 ERA in 27 games with the Mets but dominated at the Class AAA going 3-0 with a 1.67 ERA in 22 appearances.
Sedlacek, 27, was 4-11 with a 6.45 ERA at Class AAA Omaha in 2003. He made 16 appearances, including 14 starts, for the Royals in 2002 -- going 3-5 with a 6.72 ERA.
