Reds sell out opener in 16 minutes
CINCINNATI -- The Reds sold out their first regular-season game in 16 minutes Saturday, the fastest-ever sellout for Opening Day in Cincinnati.
Fans logged onto the Internet, telephoned in and stood in line at Great American Ballpark and other outlets to purchase seats for the game against the Chicago Cubs on April 5.
Team spokesman Rob Butcher said says this year's Opening Day sellout is the fastest-ever, beating the record of 26 minutes set in 2002. He says it took about an hour to sell out last year.
The stadium holds about 42,000 people. Butcher wouldn't reveal the exact number of tickets sold.
He says about 200 people lined up at the ballpark Friday afternoon to wait for the sale to begin this morning.
