Wood also accomplished feat in 1998

ATLANTA -- Chicago pitcher Kerry Wood tied a Cubs record
when he struck out seven consecutive Atlanta Braves on Sunday.

The right hander struck out the side in the third and fourth
innings and then fanned Braves pitcher Russ Ortiz to open the
fifth. Mark DeRosa then flied out to right field to end the streak.

A Cubs pitcher has struck out seven straight three other times,
the last being Mark Prior against Houston on Aug. 5, 2002. Wood
accomplished the feat once before, against the Astros on May 6,
1998.

The record for most consecutive strikeouts in a game is 10, set
by Tom Seaver of the New York Mets against San Diego on April 22,
1970.
