NEW YORK -- Shortstop Derek Jeter was out of the Yankees' lineup for the third game in a row Tuesday night, missing New York's game against the Colorado Rockies because of his strained groin.

Alex Rodriguez remained at third base and Enrique Wilson played shortstop.

Manager Joe Torre said he kept Jeter on the bench as a precaution.

"He's fine," Torre said through a spokesman. "Just for my own comfort, I want to give it one more day. I'm 95 percent sure he'll play (Wednesday)."

Jeter took part in all the regular pregame drills and said he felt no discomfort. He's hitting .233 with seven homers.

Bernie Williams batted leadoff, as he did Sunday. It was his second time atop the Yankees order since April 1996.
