Philadelphia Phillies: Right-hander Vicente Padilla will be sidelined indefinitely with biceps tendinitis and elbow inflammation in his pitching arm.

Team officials said Padilla will have an MRI on Tuesday and a bone scan Wednesday.

The former All-Star, on the disabled list since May 29, left in the second inning of a rehab start Sunday night for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He's 4-5 with a 4.07 ERA in 10 starts this season.

The Phillies are also without another starter, left-hander Randy Wolf, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list on June 8 with elbow tendinitis.

Oakland Athletics: Third baseman Eric Chavez, out since June 2 because of a broken right hand, is scheduled to have a third X-ray taken later this week.

"There is some healing going on in there, so I'm encouraged with that," manager Ken Macha said. "He came out early today, took some groundballs and ran the bases, but they're not going to let him start swinging the bat until it's completely healed."

Veteran reliever Chris Hammond, who has not pitched in 10 days because of a strained left shoulder, was placed on the 15-day disabled list.

The Athletics made the move retroactive to June 12 and called up infielder Ramon Castro from Sacramento of the Class AAA Pacific Coast League.

The 38-year-old Hammond last pitched on June 11, when he threw a scoreless inning in a 6-1 win over Pittsburgh. The lefthander is 2-1 with a 4.61 ERA and one save in 20 appearances. It is the seventh trip to the disabled list in Hammond's career.

The 24-year-old Castro was batting .233 with one homer, eight doubles, two triples and 15 RBI in 37 games for Sacramento.

San Francisco Giants: The Giants placed lefty reliever Jason Christiansen on the 15-day disabled list with mild tendinitis in the front of his throwing shoulder.

The move is retroactive to Saturday. Christiansen's shoulder trouble is a major reason he has struggled lately, allowing five earned runs over his past 3 1/3 innings -- six appearances.

Injured first baseman J.T. Snow (knee) will begin a rehab assignment Tuesday at Triple-A Fresno, where he'll get three at-bats. He could be activated later this week.

Injured right-hander Jesse Foppert, recovering from reconstructive elbow surgery in September, could be sent out on a rehab assignment in the next few weeks. He wasn't expected to be ready to pitch again in the majors until September.

The Giants also recalled left-hander Noah Lowry from Triple-A Fresno only two days after he made an impressive spot start -- a no-decision in San Francisco's 6-4 win against Pedro Martinez and the Red Sox.

Lowry hadn't yet officially reported to the Grizzlies, who played in Portland over the weekend. He arrived in Fresno on Sunday, stayed the night and headed right back to San Francisco first thing Monday.

Chicago White Sox: Magglio Ordonez has been on the 15-day disabled list since June 4 with a torn meniscus in his left knee.

He had surgery June 5, and he said last weekend that he wanted to return this week, but White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen isn't sure.

"The way I see (Ordonez) running and performing, I don't expect him to be back this week," Guillen said. "I hope he does."

Anaheim Angels: Left-handed pitcher Jarrod Washburn, who left Sunday's start after two innings with spasms in his neck and upper back, still had some stiffness Monday.

But manager Mike Scioscia expected him to make Friday's scheduled start.

Right-handed pitcher Aaron Sele threw a simulated game in preparation for his return to the rotation on Saturday, when he is eligible to come off the DL.

Pittsburgh Pirates: Kip Wells threw 65 pitches on the side and is expected to throw again either Tuesday or Wednesday.

Wells, suffering from an irritation on his right middle finger, reported no difficulty. Wells has missed one start and is expected to return to the starting rotation if his next bullpen session goes well.

Houston Astros: Left-hander Andy Pettitte, on the DL since May 31 with a strained left forearm, will make his second rehabilitation start at Double-A Round Rock on Wednesday.

Pete Munro will make his third start in place of Pettitte for Houston Wednesday. Pettitte pitched three innings for Round Rock on June 18, giving up two runs on three hits. He walked one and struck out four.

Houston signed RHP Russ Springer to a minor league contract. He'll be assigned to Triple-A New Orleans.
